The Art of idleness (Considerations on the origins of unhappiness and conflicts)

"Human beings are only good when they are happy, when they reach the inner harmony, therefore, when they love.
Thus, the misfortune that striked the world, the distress i felt was coming from an inability to love truly."

"Everything that we are unable to accept, to love, to savor with gratitude becomes poison.
On the contrary, everything that we learn to cherish, everything that instills energy represents a life source and a treasure."

Hermann HESSE (rough translation)

  1. Hi! I like these quotations you shared, you know I feel Hesse's writing and philosophy touches me and I consider that man a great thinker and writer.

It's interesting, the other day I was in a Japanese restaurant for dinner and there was a young boy (probably at that age when he just started university) and he was having a meal with an older couple (probably his parents, but the woman had a strong accent I couldn't recognize so I wonder if his father remarried ... well these are some ideas I had), he was talking passionately about feeling inspired by Hesse. He didn't say which book he read, but that he wants to read Steppenwofl next. The woman said that she thought there is another author during Hesse's time that was a much better writer (it's too bad I couldn't overhear the name, I would be interested in reading this other author to form my opinion- I supposed I could have asked her, but I felt it would be impolite and I was with someone so I didn't want to interrupt our dinner with my questions). I thought that was nice, to see that others enjoy Hesse. This book Steppenwolf, it seems to be his most popular work. I started to read it in the past but felt I didn't enjoy it, so I stopped. I even saw it in a scene in a film once, a character was reading that exact book in a film! eh eh

Everything is connected, there is more but I will write you instead of leaving you a long rambling comment of my thoughts!
